Two Fringe shows, one English and one French, were chosen by the Montreal Mirror as their Fringe standouts this year and the English one would be us, baby!
"S.C.R.E.W. (the Sexual Curriculum Remedial Education Workshop) is the brainchild of Montreal writer-director-actor Lindsay Milner and her company Flirt Productions. She's the chirpy, no-nonsense Sex-Ed teacher Sarah Lovejoy, determined to set us right. Meanwhile, seated in the corner and ready to blast any breach of conduct with an air horn, is Miss Jane (Anna Berlyn); the prim and tweedy government supervisor.
A modern-day Maria from The Sound of Music, Lovejoy sweetly sings that "Doe, a deer..." song, changing it to "Cunt, the gateway to romance!" and so on. Another tune about bestiality ("Up on a hill sits a lonely goat-herd...") is fortunately killed off by the air horn. With help from "audience volunteer" Alfredo Quimbar, the ABCs of Doing It were well covered in Milner's Fringey and funny show." -The Mirror

Well, the 2009 Fringe Fest is over for this year, after 10 days of amazing plays and night-long parties! But we're not sad because we ended our run with a bang! Our weekend shows, including closing night, were completely sold out and our audiences have been absolutely amazing!
On behalf of everyone at Flirt Productions and our fantastic cast and crew, we would like to thank everyone who supported us and all those who came out and got S.C.R.E.W.'ed!
Midnight Poutine, voted #1 for best Blog by the Mirror's Best Of Montreal 2009, wrote an article about her experience at S.C.R.E.W. and her memories about what was once and what is now considered Sex-Ed.
"A few days ago my little cousin showed me some homework for her Sex Ed class. One of the questions was "What are some disadvantages of using the female condom?" One of the possible answers was: it squeaks.
In my day, Sex Ed did not consist of noisy contraceptives. At best, we girls were segregated from the boys, shuttled into a separate room, and asked, "So, is there anything you want to know?" So I felt it necessary to bolster my high school education, in case there was anything that I hadn't learned in nearly a quarter century. Thankfully, there's a quick and dirty crash course at the Fringe: S.C.R.E.W., the Sexual Curriculum Remedial Education Workshop.
In 45 minutes, Instructor Sarah Lovejoy takes you through courtship, arousal, protection, and finally, to climax. However, her course is monitored by Jane Johnson, a morality officer whose trusty blowhorn interrupts whenever things get a little too risque. I won't spoil the ending for you, albeit to say it's a happy one. " -Midnight Poutine

The girls from S.C.R.E.W. were invited to be part of the 13th Hour's Sexy Show, on June 17th. They challenged the hosts to demonstrate large-scale safe sex with a "human condom" (which will be uploaded as soon as it's available).
When they spun the "Money-Wheel", they landed on "Do It Rufus!" and had to come up with something to challenge the intern Rufus to do. The girls decided to challenge him to blow up a condom as quickly as possible. The results are as follows and can be seen below:
Risa Dickens, co-founder of Indyish, made a shopping list of Fringe shows to check out, and that list would not be complete of course without a session from S.C.R.E.W.
"One more show that caught my eye and brainwaves is SCREW by Flirt Productions - an ironic, naughty, educational send off of our generally crummy sexual education. Kids want and need more wisdom on the subject, and right now our schools mostly aren't giving them quite what they require as funding for luxuries like love and health get the axe, but maybe the surreal sass of Lindsay Milner can save us." -Risa Dickens from Indyish

S.C.R.E.W. was featured in the Hour as the top sexy Fringe pick for 2009.
"The first production that caught my eye, and which I consider my top choice for this year's sex-addled Fringe-goer, was S.C.R.E.W.: The Sexual Curriculum Remedial Education Workshop." -The Hour

The Hour's sex columnist has ranked SCREW as one of three must see shows this Friday.
"S.C.R.E.W. boasts both "exuberant sexiness" and the inflation of a condom to bursting. With hot chicks teaching you everything about sex you've always wanted to know, but were afraid to ask, how could this NOT be a must-see? Besides, a big part of sex-ed is admitting you know nothing. Let these lovely ladies bring you toward enlightenment, or at least give you a few tips and tricks for your next bedroom maneuvers." -The Hour's Laura Roberts

Here's some online buzz from audience members:
SCREW is awesome! "The theatre was almost full to capacity when I went, and I fully expect this show to sell-out for its upcoming performances. If you want lots of innuendo-induced laughter, go see this show!" -Online Buzz
"A fun show! The content of the "sex ed lesson" was a bit prosaic - but the basic information were well presented. All performers were a treat to watch - the relationship between the two main characters, while not exactly heavily veiled, was entertaining to watch as it unfolded, and they worked well with an exceptionally sweet-natured stooge." -Online Buzz

The Hour gave us a nod for being both sexy and instructional. What more could you ask for?
"Seeking a more edifying experience, but don't want to skimp on the skin? Once again, Fringe delivers the best of both worlds: You can go political (Fucking Stephen Harper), cyber (Penumbra), instructional (S.C.R.E.W.: The Sexual Curriculum Remedial Education Workshop), debauched (Perverts!) or morbid (Terminal)." -The Hour

The June 5th edition of The Montreal Gazette covered the upcoming Fringe Festival and it seems our show has caught their attention. They say we are either "catchy" or "naughty", but we're thinking we must be on the naughty list.
